Types of Autogate Systems and Designs You Should Know

Rav Fong • January 11, 2022

As the name suggests, the autogate system is a gate equipped with a motor that will automatically open or close the gate once the system is installed. It can be operated using a remote control receiver or an automated button placed on the wall inside your house.

In Malaysia, having an autogate system to complement your home exterior adds to the convenience of entering and leaving the premises without having to disembark from your car, especially when it’s pouring outside. At the same time, you can let your guests into the premises with a simple press of a button. It’s convenient and easy to operate.

Types of Autogate System

There are four types of autogate systems available on the market, which are the sliding, swing/folding arm, mounted pillar, and underground swing autogate systems. Each of these autogate systems differs in various ways. As such, let's dive deeper into each type of autogate system.

Sliding Autogate System

The sliding autogate system is likely the most popular for spacious homes, factories, and commercial premises as the sliding gate is a single gate that slides on a track. As such, the autogate system is designed to slide either from the left or right automatically with a single click of the remote control.

Swing/Folding Arm Autogate System

The swing/folding arm autogate system is the most popular type of autogate as the swing gate has a motor-controlled arm that acts as the lever to open/close the gate inwards or outwards. As such, the autogate arm is installed on the wall and uses a hydraulic pump to open the gate automatically.

Mounted Pillar Autogate System

This autogate system is similar to the previous type of autogate system but the autogate motor is mounted to the pillar and is designed for folding or swing type gates. To ensure that the autogate closes properly, there is an external electromagnet lock for it.

Underground Swing Autogate System

The underground motor is one of the earliest gate systems in Malaysia as the motor is hidden underground to seamlessly open and close the gate automatically. As such, owners won’t need to alter anything on their gate to fit it. That said, it’s the least popular system among the four.

How does an automatic gate works?

Depending on the type of autogate system you select, they usually come with a specially designed motor that is operated by a remote control that sends an impulse to the control unit which activates the motor.

The control unit also detects other signals such as those of the photocells, which is a component that constantly communicates with the control unit. Through a light beam, it detects if there are objects or people within the range of action of the gate to avoid crushing people or things.

What are the benefits of having an autogate system?

Aside from the ease of access, installing an autogate system helps make life a breeze as it can provide increased security, safety, privacy and peace of mind. Let’s delve deeper into the benefits.

Convenience

The most obvious benefit of having an autogate system is the automated process of opening and closing the gates. Imagine getting yourself drenched while opening your gate manually. It can cause you to fall sick the next day. With an autogate system, you can easily open your gates while staying comfortably in the car.

Security

Another reason that many homeowners in Malaysia opt to install an autogate system is for the added security. That’s because automatic gates can only be opened using a remote control, switch, or card. As such, the premises is limited to authorised persons, keeping trespassers out of your house.

Higher property value

A modern autogate system is usually more than just a gate with motorised moving parts. They are typically well-designed pieces that can be customised to your home as an aesthetic addition. As a result, it increases the value of your property, especially when you decide to sell it off.
